What Viscosity Should You Use?

In most cases you can simply go with the manufacturers' recommended viscosity grade. However, there is an exception (isn't there always?). AMSOIL Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil has been designed specifically to be used for applications which require diesel oil specifications CG-4, CF-2 and CF.Its operating temperature range is quite broad, with a pour point of -60^o F and a flash point of 489^o F. In addition, the extremely high quality synthetic basestocks and long life additives which are used in our Series 3000 oils assure that they will maintain their high performance qualities over thousands of trouble-free miles.

However, if you decide not to go with our Series 3000 oil, you can rest assured that you will still be pleased with the performance of our standard 15W-40 and other diesel motor oils.

AMSOIL and a midwest fleet have been conducting a joint demonstration since Jan. 1996 comparing Series 3000 Synthetic 5w-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil to a popular 15W-40. Over the road testing is bearing out what we've known all along: Series 3000 is superior!!
After a winter of record-breaking cold temps, a late spring and summer, the 1996 Kenworth trucks with Cummins N-14 engines participating in the AMSOIL Series 3000 fleet demonstration are approaching 80,000 miles or the one third mark in the 250,000 mile study and Series 3000 is looking good

SERVICE LIFE AND PROTECTION. The five demo vehicles, which are running with Series 3000, a high quality after market full-flow oil filter and an AMSOIL By-Pass Filter, have received no oil or by-pass oil filter changes to date (9-96) Full-flow filters have been changed as necessary. Oil will be drained according to the findings of used oil analysis. All vehicles used in the demonstration kept the original manufacturer's oil until the first 20,000 mile oil change. At that time the AMSOIL Series 3000 was added. The five control vehicles, running with a top-quality national brand petroleum product and the same make high quality full-flow oil filter as that in the test vehicles, have received four installations of new oil and filters. Oil drain intervals are set at 20,000 miles.
Oil analysis shows the Series 3000 in all test vehicles is fit for ongoing service, with a large safety margin between its performance after 80,000 miles and study contamination limits. In fact, at a drain interval now four times that of the control oil, Series 3000 shows superior overall performance. Even though AMSOIL Series 3000 has gone four times the mileage and oil analysis shows that there is less wear metals in the oil (after 80,000 miles), soot and solid accumulation per mile is lower, there is no viscosity breakdown in the Series 3000! Fleet personnel have noticed that oil consumption is lower in the Series 3000 vehicles. AMSOIL SAVES MONEY!

AMSOIL Fifth Wheel and Open Gear Compound is based on proprietary technology that does not use asphaltic materials, residual compounded oils or diluent solvents as part of the lubricant formulation. It provides excellent adhesion to surfaces, resistance to water washout and protection against rust, corrosion, and wear. Virtually eliminates common deficiencies of residual oils and asphaltic compounds such as narrow operating temperature range, flaking, poor adhesion, water washout and environmental concerns.

High Temperature Performance

AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic Gear Lubes offer the thermal stability and durability, oxidation resistance and shear stability required for optimal protection in the hot environments in which race and commercial vehicle gears operate. Thermal stability and oxidation resistance keep gears and seals clean by inhibiting the heat-induced formation of sludge and deposits. Thermal durability protects gears from physical damage by preventing heat-induced failure of anti-wear chemistry. Low Temperature Protection
